About Knitting and prayer

Previous Entry Knitting and prayer Dec. 6th, 2006 @ 08:23 am Next Entry
Life's kind of crazy right now so knitting has become a refuge for me -- but also a stressor. My brother's asked for a pair of mittens for Christmas and because his hands are so huge, I'm having to create a pattern on my own. And of course, I can't knit JUST a plain mitten. I have to throw in a cable and knit it in moss stitch. Yes, overambition is my middle name, thanks. I can do this -- but it involves math and lots of swatching and a good amount of prayer. And frogging. Rippit! Rippet!

But, on occasion, I knit myself a row or two of my new sock. SOOOCK!!

Why yes, I went outside in 30 degree weather to take these shots. And yes, I need a pedicure badly. :)

But still -- SOOOCK!!! :)

I feel the same way that you do about knitting. It is definately a stressful activity, and many people just don't seem to realize that. I applaude you in your efforts and hope that those mittens come out top-notch. God speed, knitter, God speed.

Why thank you, anonymous! :)

It's odd -- knitting is both stressful AND peaceful.

It's only a matter of time before she can knit socks from the inside with her toes.

The manly mitts pattern from knitty is easily upsized for larger hands. I've used it on several pairs and it's a good way to be introduced to two color stranded knitting, plus the stranded knitting makes for a super warm pair of mittens.

If I fail (again) with the current design, manly mitts was the next place I was going to go!! Great minds think alike! :)

I am determined to get my stash down to one storage container before I buy new yarn. I will succeed in this goal, dammit. Unfortunately, not much in the stash is feltable, so it may take a little while :)
