About Quick update!!

Previous Entry Quick update!! Nov. 4th, 2010 @ 11:17 am Next Entry
First -- I have heard absolutely zero from Cooks Source -- however, HELLO INTERNET!! NICE TO SEE YOU!! Welcome to my blog!!

@neilhimself retweeted this story: http://twitter.com/neilhimself !!! -- My nerd life is complete.

(tho it will be more complete is @wilw would comment too... :)

This is now on the front page of reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/e147w/website_article_gets_copied_without_permission_by/ -- HELLO REDDITORS! Nice to see you!!!

And apparently the internet as a whole has decided to take up my case on the Facebook webpage of Cooks Source

Topsy.com has informed me that (as of 11:15AM EDT) that there's been 1,300+ trackbacks to my article.

John Scalzi has posted and tweeted: http://whatever.scalzi.com/

If it gets posted elsewhere, please feel free to repost it here.

And, first and foremost, I am utterly grateful and thankful for all the lovely and wonderful comments I have gotten so far. Internet -- you rule. Thank you so much.

use the IC3 and get it straightened out

I posted a bit ago, but it doesn't look like it went through so I'll try again-

http://thewriterandthewhitecat.blogspot.com/2010/10/notified-fbi-partnership-with-national.html

That's my blog address- at the Writer and the White Cat, where it will show you how to make the pay attention and get his resolved. You can contact me at rick@idealgases.com if you'd like as well. I was plagiarized by a scam publisher in Indiana who has been getting away with it for years, but now the Attorney General of Indiana is investigating him.

Good luck.

plagiarist posting

Same guy from The Writer and the White Cat blog- since I've got 10 posts up about me being plagiarized and some other authors, can I excerpt from your write-up (attributing it to you, of course) so that my readers can learn about this. I get roughly three thousand visitors a week, so I'd like to help you spread the word.

Consult an IP Attorney

(Link)
You need to consult an intellectual property attorney. I'm a practicing attorney. My advice is that you need to move fast to preserve your rights and all available options for you. Now that you are on notice, you are on the clock to claim infringement. The parameters of which are complex and should not be discussed here in a forum. If you have any questions, please email me at ttrnet@gmail.com.

Hi Monica,

I'm not Time or Reddit or anything but I did write up a short piece on my own website about your whole ordeal. http://www.cristopherboyer.com/2010/11/the-internet-teaches-a-lesson-in-copyright/

I'm not trying to drum up traffic but I figure it'd be a bit of a faux pas to write a piece on your story without at least saying something! =)

I hope you get what's coming to you on the whole thing. Add me to the list of voices cheering for you!

Appology

(Link)
Did you see the "apology" on the facebook page?

"Well, here I am with egg on my face! I did apologise to Monica via email, but aparently it wasnt enough for her. To all of you, thank you for your interest in Cooks Source and Again, to Monica, I am sorry -- my bad!
You did find a way to get your "pound of flesh..." we used to have 110 "friends," we now have 1,870... wow!

Best to all, Judith"

Monica:

Thank you for speaking out and for giving a voice to copyright protection and infringement. I'm sure when you started this week that such an act of infringement was not even imaginable. I think the response via Facebook notes this as well.

I've handled video rights and clearances for my clients. Sadly, there are some who refuse to pay and/or make restitution. Writers, producers and any content creators must know their rights.

Keep writing and don't quit. There's a reason why you started to write and please don't let this deter you from continuing to do so.

Merci,

Huge props to you for getting the internet to stand up for copyright. I am a writer and am gobsmacked by the response you got. I have heard some rubbish in my time - "We only wanted to share with our readers..." "You should be grateful for the exposure..." - but, wow, nobody has ever said I should pay them for the privilege of having content stolen. (By the way, have you considered editing her email and billing her for it?)

Keep fighting the good fight. We are on your side.

You've probably heard already, but Paula Deen has commented on the Facebook noting that her lawyers have been informed about the theft of her own articles.
